Brown Boots to Drool Over

| October 23, 2012 | 0 Comments

Two or three years ago — almost to the day — I was sitting in Cape Cod late at night with friends talking about my dream pair of brown boots. I wanted ones with a bit of a heel — but not a high heel, per se. And maybe in a earthy or camel-y tone. And … I tried to locate just the right pair, surfing on my Blackberry but couldn’t. And now years, later, I still haven’t indulged in that fantastical unicorn — my perfect pair of brown boots. Sure, I have black ones and olive-y ones. But those brown ones? Elusive.

I still don’t own a pair. But I am obsessed with the search for the perfect brown boots.

It would help if I knew what exactly meant though. To be blunt, my ideal pair of brown boots is more of a feeling than a description — I want edgy and a little funky.

The Merrel Captiva High Waterproof ones above? Love. I’m a longtime fan of Merrell shoes. My seven-year-old son Will has had a new pair almost every fall since he started walking. And I am well-familiar with how rugged and comfortable they are — both great things. But when I saw these fabulous waterproof leather boots, I was beyond smitten. I love when a comfortable, durable shoe is also super cute. Wouldn’t these be killer with leggings and a long sweater for apple picking this fall? Or on the sidelines at a soccer game? (Merrell, $200)

But I am also totally into the riding boot style too. Riding boots have such clean lines and cool little details. And the fact that I actually do ride horses kind of makes me like them even more.

The pair to the left is one of my very favorite pairs of riding boots that I’ve seen. These Calista riding boots from Tory Burch (Bloomingdales, $495) are pretty darn fabulous. Check out all the amazing details — the buckle ankle strap, the logo, the stitching. These are boots I could wear every day and be so happy.

Of course, the price is a little beyond my budget.

Will I be buying perfect pair of brown boots soon? Probably not. But I am still searching for the right ones anyway.
