Spotlight on Peace but not Quiet

| October 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

A California girl moves to Colorado and writes about life with four kids in the Rocky Mountains. And she’s a former news gal who loves the ocean (I like her already!). That’s the story behind Peace But Not Quiet, written by the lovely Laura Falin. It’s an inspiring blog with so many great ideas (I love her 5 Ideas for a Peaceful Home!) and this month she’s writing all about baby-related info. Check out 31 Days of Baby Stuff — she has lots of great tips, tricks and hints.

Have you seen Laura’s cute ad in the sidebar? She won ad space recently and I couldn’t wait to feature her on Sarah by the Sea so that you could get to know her too.

Recently, I asked Laura a few questions so we could get to know her a little better. Here’s what she had to say:

What inspired you to start blogging?

Laura: I started a blog when we moved out of state six years ago. I was always forgetting stories about the kids that I wanted to tell my family when they called. And somehow, over the years, it went from being funny stories about the kids to writing about being a mom in general…and eventually I started this one to just focus on that.

How do you find time to blog?

Laura: Usually it’s after the kids are in bed for the night…or during naptime. I usually have an idea of what I’m going to write about so I can take pictures during the day and write later on.

Do you ever miss the quiet?

Laura: Sometimes! I do some things on my own — I’m in a book club. I run every so often. I try to schedule date nights with my husband. But I do like having a full, noisy house with kids running all over it.

I see that you were a news assignment editor. How have you used that experience in approaching your blog?

Laura: I probably approach writing for my blog like TV news writing — with lots of pictures and concise writing. I’m writing for moms, and I figure they’re pretty busy! If they only have a few minutes to spend reading blogs, hopefully I can offer up something useful and encouraging.

What’s your favorite aspect of blogging?

Laura: The more I’ve been blogging, the more blogs I’m finding and reading. There are a lot of great writers out there with a lot of fascinating ideas. It’s like having 20 magazine subscriptions without the cost!
